Mother’s Night: A Coming Together

Imagine stepping out of the busyness of the world and into a room glowing with candlelight. Soft music plays, the air smells of warm spices and a delicious drink is placed in your hands. Outside, the Surrey Hills woodland settles into the dark. Inside, a luxurious heated floor is spread with bolsters and blankets, inviting you to sink down, get comfortable and stay a while.

Held by Hannah and Millie, Mother’s Night is a gentle invitation to gather, pause and reconnect with ourselves and one another.

Why we’re holding this night

Mōdraniht (pronounced MOH-drah-nikht), Old English for “Night of the Mothers” or “Mothers’ Night”, was an ancient gathering held on or around the longest night of the year, the winter solstice. As the dark drew in, people came together to honour the women who nurture, carry and hold life in all its forms.

We wanted to bring a gentle version of that tradition back: a night for women to be held, rather than being the ones who hold everyone else.

Whether you are hoping to conceive, deep in the beautiful and complicated middle of motherhood, finding yourself in a new chapter as your children grow, or carrying the tender reality of not being a mother by choice or circumstance, you are welcome here.

How the evening unfolds

We begin with a grounding meditation led by Millie, a chance to arrive, soften and leave the day behind you. From there, we open the circle for anyone who wishes to speak and share whatever they’d like to give voice to. There is no pressure to say a word, and listening is just as welcome.

What the evening holds

  • A cosy, candlelit space where you can finally exhale

  • A heated floor, plump bolsters and soft blankets to nestle into

  • A nourishing drink and homemade food

  • Gentle moments of ritual, poetry and reflection

  • Laughter, because joy deserves a place here too

  • Room for tears, if they come, without apology

  • The quiet comfort of being among women who understand, without judgement

Why you should come

  • Because you spend so much time caring for others. This is a night when someone looks after you.

  • Because wherever you are on your journey, you belong. There’s no hierarchy here.

  • Because there’s nothing to prepare or perform. You can simply be.

  • Because you deserve a pause. An evening of candlelight, warmth and good company is a small act of care for yourself.

What you won’t need

You won’t need to share, find the right words, or be anything other than exactly as you are. Speak if you wish, or simply listen. Both are welcome, and both are enough. There is no shame here and no expectation, only a soft, sacred space to be seen, heard and held.

This is a moment to pause during the busyness of festivities. Our intention is that you’ll leave feeling filled up, lighter and warmer, a little more connected to yourself and to the women around you, and ready to step into the festivities ahead with a full heart.

We’re keeping this night small and intimate, so spaces are limited. Join us on Sunday 20th December. There’s a warm space waiting for you by the candles.

“Dear Hannah and Millie, what an amazing afternoon, thank you. I felt calm and relaxed for the first time, well, since the last sound bath you hosted probably. I wish I could live in this state! You are both wonderful human beings. I’m so lucky and blessed that our paths have crossed” - Gill

“Thank you so much again for yesterday.  It was amazing and we both thoroughly enjoyed it and felt very zen.” - Heather & Beth
